Ken's
10 Acre Fall Playground
Ken's
Korny Corn Maze, started in 2000, and has amazed and amused
visitors since it's first day open. The maze is worked
out as early as February where put on paper their ideas
to turn six acres of a cornfield into two miles of twists
and turns. It takes four men working in the field to make
the patterns. The corn is about two feet tall when they
start shaping and when they finally finished the first
week of July it is head tall. To make the five-foot paths
corn stalks are actually pulled out rather than cutting
them, to avoid le
aving
dangerous stubs in the ground. The average time to maneuver
the maze take 60-75
minutes. When you get in there, all you see is cornrows
and blue sky. You might also hear some passing planes.
Many planes often circle around to go over the field again,
slowly and lower. You will get out there and learn about
farm life and get some exercise, it's a lot of good, family
fun.
After purchasing a ticket and choosing a flag on a long
pole, navigators push a time clock and start
weaving. Each "player" gets instructions on
the rules of the maze, a flag, attached to a six-foot
pole, and a game card. Within the maze are twelve"mailboxes.
" The objective is to find each of the twelve mail-boxes,
each of which has a stamp to apply to the game card. Each
participant punches a game clock when he enters and the
object is to complete the maze, gathering stamps from
each of the twelve mailboxes in the shortest possible
time. Some "secrets" to negotiating the maze
successfully. Sections of the maze are color coded, he
said, and the game card includes some hints about how
to find your way. "It's like a game board,"
he said, not wanting to reveal too many of the maze's
secrets. "And the color coded markers can help you
find your way out, if you use a little common sense. Observers
will be on duty on the observation deck, and if a maze-wander
encounters trouble, he can wave his flag for help. "Runners"
also will be stationed within the maze itself to answer
que
stions
and provide assistance.
Our maze also
includes something
that other mazes
don't two rest
stations. About
every third of
the way through
the maze there
is an open area
provided with
a tent, benches
and water cooler
to serve as a
rest area.
The attraction will be open on September 14th thru November
10th. Beginning in mid October,
just in time for Halloween, the maze also will be open
for flashlight or moon light excursions.
